Olympics 2012: Day Six For Team Nigeria.

The Nigerian Men’s Basketball team, D’Tigers squared off against their United States counterparts captained by NBA star, Kobe Bryant of Los Angeles Lakers yesterday.

It was a night to forget for Olumide Oyedeji and co who couldn’t defend themselves from the assault laid on them by the Americans, who broke numerous records in one night.

The encounter was no contest and the gap between the Americans and D’Tigers was evident and clear for everyone to see, with the Americans scoring an Olympic record points haul to ease past Nigeria 156-73.

The Americans made history when Andre Igoudala scored a three-pointer to take the score to 139-68 with 4:27minutes left to play, bettering the previous record of 138 set by Brazil against Egypt in Seoul 1988.

They amassed a record high 78 points in the first half alone cancelling out the previous record of 72 points set by Brazil against China in Seoul 1988.

Carmelo Anthony led the US team with 37 points, breaking Stephen Marbury’s 31 points record for a US player at the Olympics.

Their winning margin of 83 points beat their previous best of 72 against Thailand – a 101-29 win in 1956.
