SON and DPR to use Mobile Fuel-Testing Laboratory to Foster Quality at the Pump

The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) are partnering to have a mobile fuel-testing laboratory to ensure quality at the pump – nationwide. This comes as reports of adulteration of petroleum products are growing in the country and after DPR recently sealed scores of filling stations. Automated Gas Oil (AGO) or diesel, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol, Lubricants and Kerosene will be tested by the ‘laboratory on wheels’ to ensure compliance with accepted standards.

Speaking on the imminent laboratory, the Director-General of SON, Joseph Odumodu, said, “There is constant breakdown of engines and this constitutes additional drain on personal and corporate resources. Our concern today is to put in place a quality assurance system that will put a stop to these embarrassing and unnecessary incidents.”

He continued, “All petroleum depots, lubricating and blending plants, liquefied petroleum gas, LPG plants, LPG sale outlets, petrol service stations and surface kerosene sale outlets will be constantly monitored to ensure that products emanating there from conform to safe and acceptable industry standards.”
