Music producer Don Jazzy and businessman Dele Odufuye have teamed up to launch Flobyt WiFi, a free WiFi service.
Flobyt’s free WiFi service is accessible in locations which have partnered with it to deliver internet connectivity to the public. Partner locations for the service include eateries, parks, restaurants and cafes which have signed up with Flobyt.
Speaking at the launch on Friday at the Renaissance Hotel in Lagos, Dele Odufuye, founder of Tsaboin and co-developer of the Flobyt initiative, said that the service had no fees attached to it for its users and partner locations; users could access it simply by entering partner spots and connecting to the service on their phones. Businesses could also improve their customer experience and patronage by making Flobyt’s free, fast internet access available at their stations. All they need to do is fill an application form on the Flobyt website, after which they will be responded to by Flobyt. The service works through an easy-to-use internet router which is installed in partner locations.
On his part, Don Jazzy described Flobyt WiFi as his first publicly announced investment in the technology space- although he had been involved in a number of others. He said that he had always wanted to participate in the business of technology, and was always looking to partner with people “who had a beautiful track record” in the space.
Flobyt WiFi is currently available in locations across Lagos. The plan by its creators is to roll out the service in other parts of Nigeria, and eventually reach the rest of Africa with it.
