Yobe Desert Stars and Heartland FC Return to NPFL

Things are looking up for the northern-based team YDS’; after 15 years long absence from the professional League.

The stars picked the berth after defeating Adamawa United 2: nil in a Nigeria National League game on Wednesday.

Goals from Maigari Bajibri and Maika Zaruma sealed their lead and tipped the team into the senior league alongside Kwara united as frontiers from the NNL Northern Conference for the next NPFL season.

Yobe Desert Stars ended the games as runner-up behind Kwara United, they won 12 matches, drew four and lost seven of their 22 games in the country’s second division, to finish at 38 points, one point ahead of Jigawa Golden Stars.

For the first time since 2002, we’ll be seeing the Desert Stars in the NPFL games next season.

Heartland FC

After a one year relegation period from the Nigeria Professional Football League, the 5-time NPFL champions have regained their place in the senior league after defeating FirstBank of Lagos 1-0 in a match day 33 fixture played at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday to emerge champions of their conference of the NNL.

Heartland player Ndukwe scored a swift goal in the 36th minute from the 30 yards and put the Naze Millionaires in the lead until the end of the game.

One more round of games to go, Heartland finished top of the Southern Conference table with 60 points from 31 games, five points ahead of second-placed Bayelsa United who also beat Papilo FC 1-0, GO-ROUND FC coming this at 54 points.

As Rachines, Unicem Rovers Fc, First Bank Fc and My People Fc are the bottom feeders in this confluence’s NNL table.
