Nigerian afro-fusion artiste, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has signed a music publishing deal with American music cooperation, Universal Music, USA. This deal comes after the January release of his album, Outside, on the Atlantic Records platform.
The album has been a huge success, with “Ye” being the most popular track as a result of a confusion that erupted from the late online release of American rapper Kanye West’s 8th studio album with the same title. The delay in the album’s release after it was announced led to fans discovering Burna’s song which had already been available online for months.
According to the statement made available to Premium Times, the deal gives the singer the privilege of managing his own songs, ensuring that he receives all the royalties he is entitled to from the backend. The statement read, “This deal will also seek and issue licenses for Burna’s work. This is, of course, in addition to administrative duties, tracking, exploitation of copyrights, and collection of monies generated from the exploitation of those copyrights.”
