Rice water is the starchy water left over after rice is cooked or left to soak. It contains many of the vitamins and minerals contained in rice which include: amino acids, vitamins B, vitamin E, minerals, and antioxidants. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties.

Hair Benefits

The amino acids in the rice water strengthens the hair roots, adds volume and lustre and makes hair grow faster, silky smooth and shiny. It helps improve the strength and texture of hair, detangles it and makes it healthier. Rice water can be used in place of a commercial conditioner.

Skin Benefits

Rice water has cooling and soothing effects on skin, and is also useful in treating sun damaged and aging skin.  It brings both brightening and anti-inflammatory benefits to the skin and also smoothes out rough texture and improves skin firmness. It can be used for everyday cleansing for softer and more radiant skin. It relieves problems like acne and dermatitis, rashes and all sorts of skin problems. The starch in rice helps treat eczema relieves itching, irritation and dryness.

For smooth and baby soft skin, grind the leftover rice and use as a body scrub and wash off with the rice water.

Health Benefits

Drinking rice water is also extremely beneficial for overall health of our body. It is a remedy for constipation and can also help in reducing the risk of cancer due to its richness in fiber.

Rice water is a healthful non-dairy beverage, and an effective home remedy for diarrhea, cholera and other gastrointestinal troubles in adults and also infants.

As a remedy for diarrhea, add a pinch of salt to a glass of rice water and drink twice daily. Take it until the diarrhea improves.

Preparation of Rice Water

  1. Soaking

Wash and rinse rice thoroughly, place rice in a bowl with 2–3 cups of water and leave to soak for 30 minutes. Strain the rice water into a clean bowl. A simple overnight soak reduces toxins in the rice.

  1. Fermenting

Here you leave the rice water to soak for up to 2 days, allowing it to ferment. Strain the rice water into a clean bowl before use.

  1. Boiling

Rice water obtained from boiling method is very effective in acute diarrhea.

Wash and rinse rice thoroughly, cook the rice in boiling water and strain the rice water into a clean bowl before use.

      Yes, it does. I use it as a conditioner and for my facial therapy.

    Between local and per-boiled (processed) rice, which one is more effective? How can it be applied for hair growth, especially bald head?
