Smoothies are a creative alternative to raw fruits and vegetables; they’re a rich frozen blend of different fruits and vegetables that can be taken while on a weight loss diet, fitness routine or just for more healthy food option. Seeing how pertinent, smoothies can be for a healthy life, they are now in popular demand, hence the need for more outlets to make them available. Smoothie Express is one of the outlets that have emerged to provide such fresh services,”one smoothie and salad at a time”.
From Having A Need To Solving It
Many businesses exist today because the founder was facing a challenge and came up with a brilliant idea that proved enterprising. It was no different for Smoothie Express. The idea for Smoothie Express was birthed by two friends, Omowunmi Akande and Tracy Owamagbe. Tracy had been trying to get on a smoothie detox with the goal of losing weight without success. This was due to inconsistency from waking up early in the mornings to prepare her smoothies before heading to work. With work in her way and no way to get on the right track, Tracy realized that this was not a problem peculiar not just to her , but to a myriad of working people out there. Consequently, like all great entrepreneurs do, she resolved to create more time for her smoothies and provide smoothies for people who like herself did not have the time and convenience to make them. She pitched her idea to Omowunmi and together they started Smoothie Express together in 2015.
Smoothie Express And Its Operations
Smoothie Express started out in a time when there were hardly any beverage companies providing smoothies on an extensive large scale in Nigeria. They set out on a mission to cater to a health-conscious audience by providing them with smoothies of various categories and flavours, suitably tailored to match their taste. The Smoothie Express menu comprises of over 30 different flavours which include smoothies, sandwiches, salads, and parfaits. Orders which are made from this menu are delivered to customers in the comfort of their own homes or offices. One of the standards that define Smoothie Express is offering rich smoothies that are appealing and make healthy eating appealing and feasible for customers. In their own words:
“We knew the importance of consuming 5-A-Day portions of fruit and vegetables recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and how difficult it was meeting this recommendation. What better way to meet this requirement than in a smoothie, and a yummy one at that. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring. We wanted our customers to have the same satisfaction in our smoothies as they would if they were having a bowl of ice cream. It is very important for us that our customers are getting value for their money”
Achievements And Rapid Recognition
Achieving success in business is no easy feat, but for Smoothie Express, it happened in such a short amount of time that both co-founders had to eventually quit their jobs to focus squarely on running the business. In the same year they started, Smoothie Express got massive support from the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme which has greatly impacted them by providing the necessary guidance and funding that has set them on the right track. Since Smoothie Express began operations in 2015, they have sold over 50,000 smoothies, over 25,000 salads and they have a customer base of about 5000 individuals. Smoothie Express is also contributing to Agriculture in Nigeria by patronising farmers for their fruits and vegetables.
