Our music video of the week is the internationally acclaimed video for the hit song Ariwo Ko off Adekunle Gold‘s debut album aptly titled Gold.
The album art was released by the singer, songwriter and graphic artist on 18th July 2016, along with the track list for the album, not very long after he had successfully introduced himself as a force to reckon with in the industry with his two hit singles Sade and Orente.
Gold was a 16-track album that included contributions from Masterkraft, Pheelz, B Banks, Sleekamo, Oscar and Seyikeyz and released on the 25th of July the same year, days ahead of the originally announced released date under the YBNL Nation label, Gold’s music label since 2015.
The album peaked at #7 on the Billboard World Album Chart the following month, and got favourable critiques and airplay around the world. The album also won the 2017 City People Music Award’s Album of the Year.
The artiste, born into the Kosoko Royal Family in Lagos state, wasted no time in making his mark in the industry with his “Urban Highlife”. He currently leads his “The 79th Element” band, following the expiration of his contract with YBNL.
Although his professional music career is barely three years old, he has won many hearts and many accolades with his unique music style. His “About 30” concert sold out at the 02 Arena in London, making him one of the very few Nigerians ever to have achieved the feat.
