Tuesday 14th October, 2014 was a great day for the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their 2014 African Women Championships campaign run as they took on Zambia. The Super Falcons made mincemeat of the She-Polopolo, defeating them 6-0 in their second Group A game of the championship. It was a total domination of the Zambian side as the Nigerian ladies came ready for butcher.
Nigeria vs Z-A-M-B-I-A
Ngozi Okobi got the onslaught off to a start with a goal from close range assisted by Ngozi Ebere. And in the next three minutes of the opener, Osinachi Ohale headed in another goal for Nigeria from another free kick assist from Ngozi following a foul on Desire Oparanozie.
The Zambians would try their luck at goal to no avail, with the efforts of the Falcons for more goals paying off in the 23rd minute as the rout continued. Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala combined brilliantly in the 18-yard box to win a penalty which the former slotted in, bringing the score to 3-0.
Asisat had a lot of chances to increase the goal difference but was denied throughout the remaining minutes of the first half. Her time however would come in the 60th minute when the Number 8 headed home a corner to score Nigeria’s fourth of the game.
The She-Polopolo were now simply playing to keep the margin as it were, but the Super Falcons were clearly not satisfied with the quadruple. In the 81st minute, Oparanozie bagged a brace when she latched onto a pass and drove home to score again.
Three minutes later, Pepertua Nkwocha made it six un-replied goals when she scored after another brilliant teamplay by the Falcons.
The Zambians tried every chip in their box to score a consolation goal, however it was already too late— the Nigerian team had succeeded in spelling ‘Z-A-M-B-I-A’.
The Super Falcons went on to win the 2014 African Women’s Championship— their ninth title at the time.
