Song of the Week: ‘White Collar Man’ by Brum3h

Brumeh “Brum3h” Oghenekaro challenges many of our conventions.

Brum3h together with Golddrummachine, make up the group called To Name A Few. Although his partner in the group has had several solo breakouts, Brum3h was yet to make a meaningful solo effort until last year when the debut single “White Collar Man”, was released.

The song was written and performed by Brum3h, produced by Seun “Sleek” Omoniwa and George “TRXVBZ Adebowale, and Mixed and Mastered by SoundmasterH1one.

The theme of the song is living your own dreams, and finding your own place rather that bowing to societal pressure to conform. He packs every verse with deep meaning, switching between pidgin and plain english as he urges everyone to put his dreams ahead of other people’s dreams for them.

With this song, Brum3h forges his own unique path as an alternate sound artist.

White Collar Man Lyrics

Go to school, go to school young boy,

Don’t be a fool be a fool my son,

Read your book read your book bobo,

So that you can be a banker,

He said don’t you want to make your mother proud,

Don’t you want your name to be the talk of the town?

Don’t you want to see your father smile?

Then he looked into his daddy’s eyes and said,

What about me

What about my own dreams yeah?

Shey you go like make i live my life tryna please another man, o yeah

What about me

What about my own dreams o yeah

shey you go like make i live my life tryna please another man oo

Your friend Tunde is a lawyer now,

And Ebuka will soon marry Nkechi.

Akin is a manager in Oil Company

Shey you no go be like them

He said don’t u want to make your mother proud

Don’t you want your name to be the talk of the town?

Don’t you want to see your father smile?

Then he looked into his daddy’s eyes and said

What about me

What about my own dreams yeah?

Shey you go like make i live my life tryna please another man, o yeah

What about me

What about my own dreams o yeah

Shey you go like make i live my life tryna please another man oo

If you want to play football or play guitar,

As far as you know say na your way,

Or play football or play guitar,

As far as you know say na your

You want play football or play guitar

As far as you know say na your way

God no give us the same path so live your life and do your part

Because nobody fit to answer for you

So you yourself you better choose

Cos nobody go answer for you

So you yourself you better choose

What about us

What about our own dreams o yeah

I no go like make we live our lives tryna please other men oo yeah yeah yeah.
