Super Eagles skipper and former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, is set to make a return to Europe after he terminated his contract with Chinese side Tianjin TEDA.
English football club, Middlesbrough, has indicated an interest in snatching the Nigerian international, and so far things are sailing very smoothly with Mikel as reports are rife on his return for fresh talks with the club chiefs.
Mikel had earlier held talks with Boro Manager, Tony Pulis, at the Middlesbrough training ground last week, and with the current information reaching us, the Nigerian is now close to signing a short-term deal with the English outfit.
Obi left TEDA for a number of reasons amongst which include a fresh start and a new challenge. Although Crystal Palace is said to be very interested in the former Chelsea midfielder, Roy Hodgson cannot guarantee Mikel a starting lineup and the change he pines for.
If Mikel completes a move to Boro, he would be going against other central midfielders already in Pulis’ team. However, the experience and imposing strength of the Nigerian international is exactly what Pulis is looking to add to his team.
The 31-year old has spent 11 years at Chelsea and has gathered quite an impressive CV, having won one Champions League title, two Premier League titles, the Europa League, three FA Cups and the League Cup.
