Song of the Week: Johnny Drille – Shine

Johnny Drille‘s “Shine” is one of the two singles released by the singer in February 2019 as a buildup to the release of his new project.

“Do your best, and don’t lose yourself.”

The song is an encouragement for anyone who is faced with challenges in their journey to success and a better life. He advises “Do your best, and don’t lose yourself” and that things might be hard for now, but there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.

The Edo-born folk/alternative singer, songwriter, producer, and sound engineer began his music career in his father’s church. He competed in the 2013 edition of MTN Project Fame Academy, and  continued to release songs until 2015 when he caught the attention of Mavin Records’ boss; Don Jazzy.

Drille experimented with various music genres including Hip Hop, Afro-pop and Highlife, before settling for folk/alternative music.

“Shine” was produced and released under the Mavin Records label. The video was shot in Lagos, and was directed by Clarence Peters.

Lyrics: Johnny Drille –  Smile

Have you seen the sun?

Have you seen the moon?

They are shining light for you

And have you seen the stars

Shining in the dark

Cause God is still watching you

Life is beautiful, however you choose

Be grateful for life

Love is beautiful, whenever I’m with you

What a time to be alive

E no matter the condition

Believe in your heart and you go dey alright

No forget say after rainfall

And after the dark, the sun go shine

Keep your heart my friend

Don’t lose yourself

In the morning time, the sun go shine

Do your best but don’t lose yourself

Cause in the morning time, the sun go shine

Have you ever seen the love in a mother’s eyes?

When she holds her little one?

And have you seen the joy in a father’s pride

In a son he truly loves?

Where ever you go

Remember, make you shine the light reach December

Don’t ever lose your souls

Whatever you do, remember stay humble and cool your temper

No forget your own

Cause e no matter the condition

You just believe in your heart and you go dey alright

No forget say after rainfall

And after the dark, the sun go shine

Keep your heart my friend

Don’t lose yourself

In the morning time, the sun go shine

Do your best but don’t lose yourself

Cause in the morning time, the sun go shine

Keep your heart my friend

Don’t lose yourself

In the morning time, the sun go shine

Do your best but don’t lose yourself

Cause in the morning time, the sun go shine

Shine your light, it will show you the road

It will lead you home

Hold on tight and learn to fight

Now that you’re on your own

E go hard sometimes

You go fall sometimes

You won’t understand

Devil go dey try but you go dey alright

You are in safe hands

E no matter the condition

Believe in your heart and you go dey alright

natirovibe.com, No forget say after rainfall

And after the dark

So keep your heart my friend

Don’t lose yourself

In the morning time, the sun go shine

Do your best but don’t lose yourself

Cause in the morning time, the sun go shine

Keep your heart my friend

Don’t lose yourself

In the morning time, the sun go shine

Do your best but don’t lose yourself

Cause in the morning time, the sun go shine

The sun will shine

In the morning time, the sun will shine

The sun will shine

It’s almost breaking dawn

The sun must shine

The sun will shine

The sun go shine
