The Electoral Committee of the Lagos State Football Association has announced May 27, as the new date for election into the state’s football governing body.
The elections, which should have been held earlier, were put on hold due to a directive from the Nigeria Football Federation.
All football associations of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, were mandated to halt electoral processes due to a number of complaints received by the NFF in several fora regarding the elections.
However, the federal football governing body has issued another memo instructing all member bodies to hold a congress before the end of the current ruling faction’s tenure and pick a new date between May 26, and June 30, 2019, as the terminal date for its board and date for its Elective Congress.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Lagos FA, Segun Babatunde, said the body has concluded on all the processing of forms and screenings for the exercise.
“We have concluded all the processes of forms collection, screening and publishing of successful candidates. We should have done this election before now, but had to postpone it because of the directive from the NFF.” — Segun Babatunde
Also, elections into the five football divisions across the state will be conducted on May 17, 2019.
According to the body, the collection of forms have been scheduled for April 18, through April 25, while submissions will begin on April 26 and end on May 2. The two-day screening exercise for the applicants will begin on May 6 and end on May 7.
