Kathryn Fasega’s movie “2 Weeks in Lagos” will be screening
at the world’s biggest film festival, The Cannes Film Festival today, Friday,
17th May 2019.
“2 Weeks in Lagos” is directed by the
Canada based film maker who has been in the industry since 1988, contributing
to some of the best TV programs, and captivating movies. She released her first
film ‘Treacherous Heart’ in 2012, and later worked on yet to be released film
“A Cord of 3 Strands”. “2 Weeks in Lagos” is her second feature film,
having made a name for herself in the industry with the first.
The romantic drama which stars Joke Silva, Toyin Abraham,
Jide Kosoko, Beverly Naya,Fathia Williams, Shaffy Bello, Okey Uzoeshi, Tina Mba
and Mawuli Gavor is set in present day Lagos, Nigeria. It follows the love
story of Ejikeme, an American returnee investment banker and Lola who are
caught in the webof ambitions of Ejikeme’s parents. Ejikeme’s mother is hell
bent on having him marry the daughter of Otunba Ayodeji, a prominent politician
running for the office of president, in order to court his favor. Their
ambition causes a rift between the lovebirds and sets both families at odds.
Cannes Film Festival, the largest and most prestigious film
festival in the world started on the 14th of May 2019, and will be screening
Fasega’s movie on the 17th under the Pavillion Afrique, at Marché du Film
Following the movie premiere at the Cannes festival in
France, it will be released in South Africa, Ghana and North America, with a
European and Asian cinema release tour before the end of the year. The movie will
be screening in selected cinemas across Nigeria starting in October2019, and is
expected to have some of the key actors, including Mawuli Gavor, Joke Silva and
Beverly Naya at the Nigerian screening.
