Iwobi scored the only goal for the Gunners as they a prime opportunity to feature in the Champions league, and many fans have refuted the decision that kept the Nigerian on the bench for the most part of the game.
England legend Gary Lineker took to social media to praise Iwobi for his magnificent goal that, for a brief moment, brought back hope to the hearts of many Arsenal fans across the globe during the Europa final.
Iwobi blasted the ball from outside the area with a right-footed curl shot, sending the ball beyond Chelsea goaltender Kepa Arrizabalaga’s reach in the 69th minute.
The 1986 World Cup Golden Boot winner, Lineker wrote on twitter:
The goal not only lifted the spirit of fans across the globe but has helped Iwobi make history as the first Nigerian international to score in the final of a European competition.
Iwobi is also the first substitute to score in a Europa League final since Jônatas for Espanyol in 2007.
