Wole Soyinka’s Plane Seat Incident
Pulse.ng
One of the highlights of the week was a tweet by Nigeria politician Tonye Cole in which he recounted an experience he witnessed between a young man and Wole Soyinka on a plane. In the tweet, he called out the young man for asking Wole Soyinka to leave his seat and tagged him “disrespectful”. Of course, Nigerians had a lot to say about the tweet with some defending the young and others agreeing with Tonye Cole.
Nigerian billionaire politician, Tonye Cole , shares his flight experience about a young man who 'disrespected' professor Wole Soyinka by asking for his allotted seat which the prof sat on. pic.twitter.com/JZjfG7Xxx0

Observe how Tonye Cole profiled the young man asking for his seat as irresponsible cos of a t-shirt and tattoos.
— Mazi Marvin the Paranoid Android (@Boboye_Ak) June 24, 2019
A lot of us are just SARS officers without guns.
For those getting ahead of themselves and lining up behind Tonye Cole, here's the young man's side of the story. To think that Soyinka agrees with his stance. pic.twitter.com/VpX3PlcxAJ
— Charles the 1st (@9jaBloke) June 24, 2019
If I run into Prof tho, I would give up my seat for him. For me, that’s respect.
— OurFavOnlineDoctor 💘 🥳 (@DrOlufunmilayo) June 24, 2019
However that doesn’t mean if someone else doesn’t, they have done wrong.
Prof did the right thing. He didn’t resist.
The shame is on those desperately trying to shame the young man or insult Prof.
My attention has been drawn to this Prof. Soyinka vs Young Boy Encounter
— Ebube The Statesman (@akaebube) June 24, 2019
I blame Tonye Cole
He arrogated to himself the position of a Referee and began a VAR check that none of the sides asked him to do.
Sir, you have reasoned with your Nigerian politician's cap on.
— omambala (@omambalab) June 24, 2019
Being older doesn't mean you can do anyhow. Otherwise, following your logic, Buhari can claim your wife and kids and you will forgo your right.
Say not to impunity. Kudos to Prof.
Why didn't Tonye Cole stand up from his own seat for Prof?
— Ikenna Ronald Nzimora (@ronaldnzimora) June 24, 2019
Abi the gods banned him from standing?
Tonye Cole is asking for respect on behalf of Prof Soyinka?
— petty wap (@ThatTemple) June 24, 2019
Quite rich cos he was disrespecting his wife with Kenya Moore but who am I to drag the hypocrisy???
If we go by Tonye Cole’s reasoning concerning the guy who asked Professor Wole Soyinka to vacate his allotted seat which the prof sat on, we won’t be using the road when government officials are passing. We won’t be able to use an elevator with celebrities. All Humans Are Special pic.twitter.com/x4VaSOjQhK
— B h a d o o s k y (@BhadmusAkeem) June 24, 2019
Firstly, what was the intention behind the description given to the man? To belittle him?
— ebele. (@ebelee_) June 24, 2019
Secondly, if Prof wanted a window seat, he sure as hell could have paid for it
Thirdly, it’s disrespectful to the young man that a seat he paid for was being dragged with him cause of age https://t.co/BfRRb52oY1
Odds are Prof had no issues with moving seats. Probably saw himself in the young man who was brave enough to ask for what was his by right.
— Rafiki (@zzyzx91) June 24, 2019
Make no mistake, if I saw prof on my seat, I will gladly sit down wherever his original seat is, and hope he will be gracious enough to have a convo with me. But, elderly people should drop this entitlement thing. Sit down where you’re allotted, don’t expose yourself to insults. https://t.co/VDmf6Ipyqc
— Chidi Okereke (@Chydee) June 24, 2019
Tonye Cole also refereed to the young man as “irresponsible” because he was wearing a T-Shirt and had a tatoo
— JAGS (@EtniesJags) June 24, 2019
Isn’t that the same mentality that SARS uses to profile young men?
The young man that told 80 year old Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka to get up, move to the aisle and vacate the window seat for him on a commercial flight is disrespecful and irreverant. We know it is his right but it is not every right that u insist on exercising.#wolesoyinka pic.twitter.com/zFITO7PRu9
— Femi Fani-Kayode (@realFFK) June 24, 2019
Its is very disreputable and disrespectful of the young man to have Insisted that Prof Wole Soyinka Vacates his seat because he Sat where he his not supposed to. When did our society turn into this? pic.twitter.com/wScfoWFUw9
— Johnpistolance (@johnpistolance) June 24, 2019
So many comments supporting the boy that bounced Prof Soyinka from his seat.
— Grand Maester Gboyega (@Prince_Gboyega) June 24, 2019
We have been traveling on the road to Moral decadence for a while and now we have arrived at destination.
My question is if it was your father, would you tell him to vacate your seat? pic.twitter.com/IHR0GcJj3Z
Be like me. Me I stood up for Prof😂.
— Edward Israel-Ayide (@wildeyeq) June 24, 2019
*highfives Bob Dee* pic.twitter.com/DoHB7SUVSl
I wouldn't have asked the good Prof to move seats but the young man was within his rights. 🤷🏾♂️ https://t.co/EdpSdu7ulD
— T. Rankïn' ∆ 🏁 (@AfroVII) June 24, 2019
I've seen alot of comments on this Tonye cole and wole Soyinka trend and I'm more than disgusted… Let's all face the truth…aside his fame, you don't see a man of this age even in a commercial bus and voice out that he is on ur seat…No properly groomed child will do that!!! pic.twitter.com/bWE7J3WFIk
— Enkay💗 (@EmmanuelNkechi5) June 24, 2019
It is absurd for a young man to disrespect an elderly man more so a a reputable professor .The young man should have used d opportunity to learn from Professor. Beside Tonye Cole shouldn’t have announced the incident more so professor left the place for d young man #wolesoyinka pic.twitter.com/URniUcZhHO
— Rasaq Adewale (@rasaqadewale) June 24, 2019
I kinda sorta think Tonye Cole was right. There are social rules in a society and getting up for the elderly is one in our society! Adding to that is disabled people, pregnant women, and women with small babies. You get up for them. Most society have these kinda rules!

BlackBonez
Pulse.ng
The Nigerian rap scene has been bereft of rappers for a long time and this has been a major topic in the industry. Hence, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when new rappers who show promise emerge in the industry, Nigerians are apt to hype them. One of such rappers is no other than BlackBonez. Since BlackBonez became a sensation among Nigerians, Twitter has been full of Tweets praising him and even comparing him to other rappers who have been in the game.
Seeing “Blaqbonez is the best rapper in Nigeria” all over my TL. If I talk now, slap fit go follow .

Nasty C is the New Wave 🌊 of Rap in Africa💯
Whoever kickstarted the comparison between Blaqbonez & Nasty C is one of the main reasons Naira will never improve in value.
