Iwobi, Ndidi, Uzoho, and Ighalo Shortlisted for CAF Best XI 2019

Super Eagles midfielders, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, alongside goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, and ex-international Odion Ighalo, have all been shortlisted for the 2019 CAF Best XI.

Shanghai Shenhua of China striker, Ighalo, was impressive at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where he scored five goals to emerge as the tournament’s top goal scorer and clinch the Golden Boot prize, before announcing his retirement from the national team fold.

Ighalo played a key role at the 2019 AFCON to help the Super Eagles win their eight AFCON bronze medal. Alex Iwobi, who joined Everton FC of England during the transfer summer has been outstanding for his club and was also instrumental in the Super Eagles campaign in Egypt.

Uzoho turned out brilliantly for the Eagles in the AFCON third place match against Tunisia, and has produced fine displays for both club and country recently before injuring his knee against Brazil in an international friendly on November 13, 2019.

Wilfred Ndidi has remained one of the best midfielders in the English Premier League, despite finishing the 2018/2019 league season as top tackler in England, he went on to with partner Etebo in the Super Eagles midfield during their outing in Egypt with man of the match performances. Ndidi has continued with his fine form this season for Leicester as the Foxes are currently placed 2nd in the English league log.

CAF’s best XI will be announced on January 7, 2020, in a ceremony.
