Nigerian Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter, Sodiq Yusuff, racked up his fourth consecutive UFC win on the night of Saturday, January 18, 2020, in Las Vegas against American fighter, Andre Fili. Until Saturday night’s fight, Yusuff was mostly unknown in Nigeria but the fight against Fili saw him record his 11th mixed martial arts win against a more popular and experienced fighter, boosting his international status and also leaving his name familiar amongst Nigerians.

Sodiq’s victory over Fili equally improved his win record to 11-1 (4-0). A well-rounded attack against his American opponent saw Yusuff win Saturday’s fight in a three-round unanimous decision after three of the judges scored the fight 29-28 in the Nigerian’s favour. The Nigerian’s superior grappling positions and better striking power ensured he finished the UFC 246 preliminary card fight at the T-Mobile Arena unhurt.

Prior to his fight against Fili, who is highly revered in the division and popularly known with his nickname, Touchy, Sodiq stated that a win will be a great step forward in his career.

26-year-old Sodiq Yusuff was born in Nigeria, and brought up in Ikorodu, Lagos State, before relocating to the United States at the age of nine.
