The Nigerian national women’s’ basketball team, D’Tigress has been congratulated by one of Nigeria’s leading banks, Zenith Bank, for picking a ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics billed to hold in Japan later this year. D’Tigress held their heads high while departing Serbia where the Olympic qualifying tournament for women’s’ basketball was held between February 6 and 9, 2020. Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, stated that the financial institution is impressed that women’s’ basketball in Nigeria has remained consistent in recent times.

This team won the last two Women AfroBasket and they played in the quarterfinal of the World Cup and now won the Tokyo 2020 ticket. We are so happy about this progress in the team which also show that the girls are gradually joining the best teams in the world stageEbenezer Onyeagwu
Air Warriors’ Musa Murjanatu, who was the MVP in the final of the 2019 Zenith Women’s Basketball League, was part of the national team that emerged victorious in Serbia. Another player in the D’Tigress, Evelyn Akhator, was equally a product of the Zenith Basketball League in Nigeria before plying her trade abroad. Other prominent female basketball players who at some point in their careers featured for D’Tigress and were also products of the Zenith league include: Upe Atosu, Chioma Udeaja, Nkechi Akhasiki, and Nkem Akaraiwe.
