The Technical Director of the NTF, Chika Chukwumerije noted that the team is in great shape physically and mentally after undergoing a seven weeks training. Chukwumerije stated that a team of four athletes comprised of two males and two female athletes have been shortlisted for the tournament in North Africa, with only directives on travelling arrangement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the only thing left to complete preparations.
I can assure you that we are good to go as far as our training and preparations are concerned. We are now waiting for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to finalise our travel arrangement. Once everything is sorted out, we should leave by Tuesday or Wednesday because other teams have started arriving Morocco for the Olympic qualifier…We have a young and dynamic team and an experienced technical crew. The entire team are driven and motivated and this is important to achieve our objectivesChika Chukwumerije

The technical director went further to urge stakeholders to support the team’s dreams of making it to Japan as well as ensure the general development of sports in Nigeria. It will be recalled that Nigeria Taekwando team made it to the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, 2008 in Beijing, China, and London 2012, but failed to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
