Nigerian football legend, Emmanuel Amuneke, has stated that his priority with his new Egyptian side, Misr El Makkasa, is to survive relegation in the 2019/2020 Egyptian Premier League season. Positioned 16th in the 18-team league table, Amuneke signed for the Egyptian side after a poor run of form in the domestic league saw, Ahmed Hossam Hussein Abdelhami, popularly known as Mido (the former team manager) shown the exit door. With the current season on break, Amuneke who penned a one-and-a-half-year deal on renewable terms with the Egyptian side is optimistic of the team’s chances of surviving the relegation battle.

The Nigerian who has already taken charge of two games since his arrival in Egypt, suffered a 1-0 loss in a Cup game and recorded a 0-0 draw against Enppi in the Egyptian league so far. He went further to express his delight at returning to the Egyptian league where he equally plied his trade professionally as a footballer.

Amuneke who featured for Zamalek and Barcelona during his playing days has had coaching stints with Khartoum SC, Sudan, and the Tanzanian national team. He equally led Nigeria to victory at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
