A narrow 2-1 win against Kano Pillars by Rivers United in Port Harcourt saw the oil rich state climb to second on the league log.  Konan Ruffin N’Gouan put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute from the spot before Cletus Emotan extended the lead with two minutes left to play. Kano Pillars’ captain, Rabiu Ali, would reduce the deficit in the stoppage time but it was not good enough as the visitors travelled back to Kano without a point.
