Brands We Love: Solynta Energy

Nigeria has a huge power supply gap. About 60 percent of its 200 million people do not have access to electricity. And most who are connected to the national grid only get limited electricity at the best of times.

This situation persists partly because the country’s power infrastructure hasn’t kept up with population growth. Demand for electricity has outstripped what is being supplied, therefore, power rationing has become the norm.

Many have turned to electricity generators to plug this gap. More recently, renewable, off-grid power sources have gained traction. Solynta Energy, a solar solutions provider, is one company playing in this emerging sector.

Solynta is helping residents and businesses in urban areas meet their energy needs. It provides them with solar panels and other equipment required to convert solar energy into power that they can use.

The company was founded by Uvie Ugono, a Nigerian who had lived in the United Kingdom for some time. He decided that Nigeria’s power issues could be fixed by leveraging renewable energy and began working on a venture that would make this happen. He says his drive to solve existing problems in his home country was inspired by his own mother’s enthusiasm about helping other Nigerians.

Since 2013, Solynta has delivered more than 1,500 MW of electricity to homes and commercial establishments in 26 states. It has thousands of customers in several towns and cities, and continues to gain more as people switch from the national grid to solar power.

Prospective customers who want to access Solynta’s renewable solution can put a call through to the company, and request an assessment of its needs. Solynta will take this on, and come up with a design and implementation plan that suits the prospect. If both parties agree, they will sign a service contract. Solynta will deploy its solution to the customer’s home or business location.

Perhaps the most attractive thing about this solar product is that it could give the client 24 hours of electricity, a better service than most people in the country enjoy from the national grid. Solar could also last them more than two decades.

Besides residential areas, Solynta also caters to retail outlets, hotels, banks, schools, petrol stations, hospitals, and other commercial centers.
