After returning from Germany, the political chief failed to self-isolate himself as directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) especially for returnees from countries with high risk of the virus, a move which meant he probably spread the virus to people he had physical contact with. Abba Kyari would go further to attend the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) meeting which was held and presided by President Buhari on March 17, 2020, with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also in attendance.
Upon medical advice, Kyari who does not exhibit symptoms of the virus tested for the virus and returned positive. He has now been self-isolated for proper medical care. To take precaution, President Buhari had to be tested but his result returned negative. The presidency as of the time of this report has not issued an official statement on Abba Kyari’s health status. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had announced late on Monday, March 23, 2020, of a new case of corona in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, bringing the total number of positive cases in Nigeria to 40 in six states.
