Mayonnaise is a thick, creamy dressing commonly used in sandwiches and salads. Different brands of this condiment are available in stores. But it’s unbelievably easy to make it at home. I’ll tell you how to prepare it in a bit but first, bear in mind that homemade mayonnaise is uncooked. It is therefore advisable to use the freshest eggs in its preparation. Those ones at least should be free of salmonella. Also, homemade mayonnaise should be refrigerated and it should be consumed within three to four days.

Vegetable oil

Lemon juice or vinegar

How to Prepare

Wash and crack the eggs. Separate the yolk and the white. Put the yolk in a wide bowl and add salt to it. Whisk the two ingredients together until they are well combined.

Use a teaspoon to gradually add oil to the mixture. Keep stirring as you do so and you would notice the mayonnaise start to thicken. If the it becomes too thick, add few drops of vinegar or lemon juice to the mixture and it will thin it down a bit.

If, on the other hand, your mixture becomes watery, just crack another egg and extract the yoke. Whisk it until fluffy and then gradually add the thin mayonnaise to it while stirring at the same time.

Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth and your desired consistency is achieved. Add the remaining vinegar or lemon juice and stir until you have a well incorporated, smooth mixture.

Your mayonnaise is ready.
