Wellness: 4 Signs Your Body Is In Need Of Vitamin D

There is a reason why vitamin D is a highly recommended vitamin for good health. It is the only vitamin that functions like a hormone, and every single cell in the body has a receptor for it.

Not only that, but it is also one of the few vitamins that are produced by the body. It is also known as the “sunshine vitamin,” since it is made by the body after being exposed to sunlight.

While vitamin D has some dietary sources such as fatty fish and fortified dairy products, it is difficult to derive it from food alone. These factors contribute to the high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among the populations.

A lot of people do not know they are vitamin D deficient because the symptoms are generally subtle. Yet, these symptoms can wreak havoc on one’s quality of life.

Here are 4 signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency

You sweat excessively

It is normal to sweat, especially after exercising or engaging in strenuous activity. However, sweating excessively even when the weather is not so hot might be an indication that something is not right.

If you notice this, you might want to consult with your doctor. It is also important for parents to note that infants who sweat excessively are often suspected of having low levels of vitamin D.

You are always falling sick

Vitamin D is one of those vitamins that are necessary for building a strong immune system. So, it is no surprise that someone who has low levels of vitamin D would be more prone to illness and infection.

Experiencing frequent colds or flu-like symptoms is a sign that low vitamin d levels are at play.

Numerous studies have shown a link between vitamin D deficiency and respiratory illnesses like colds, bronchitis, and pneumonia.

Your bones often ache

While sore bones and joints are a normal part of the aging process, they can be a sign of vitamin D deficiency.

You must have heard that calcium is a requirement for building strong bones. However, what you might not know is that calcium can’t work effectively without vitamin D.

Low levels of vitamin D prevent your bones from absorbing the necessary amount of calcium that makes them strong and healthy. This leads to high sensitivity in the bones, which makes them more susceptible to fractures and bone diseases like Osteoporosis.
