2019 CN’s Top 100 Emerging SMEs: Techfoundme

As more of Nigeria’s population goes online, a tantalizing opportunity is opening up for businesses in the country. Their customers, once unreachable except via physical means or expensive voice calls, can now be engaged with over less expensive digital channels.

That opportunity is expanding rapidly. In 2004, only about 1.4% of Nigeria’s population had access to the internet. Today, it’s about half its citizens.

But it’s one thing for businesses to be aware of this chance to sell to their targets. It’s quite another to take advantage of the chance.

That’s why companies like Techfoundme exist. They help businesses connect with their ideal audiences via a host of digital channels– including website content and social media. These firms are typically staffed by people with a thorough knowledge of these digital spaces and how humans interact with them. They leverage this knowledge to the advantage of the businesses they serve.

Techfoundme renders this service specifically to SMEs. Ventures at the lower end of the scale pyramid are legion. But they also tend to struggle the most with generating traction through new media. Large, sophisticated digital marketing firms have tended to ignore this segment, for a host of reasons.  But Techfoundme spotted an opportunity here and has latched on to it.

This brand is part of a wider initiative, Teemself Global. Its CEO, Olatunde Oladimeji, is a digital media marketer who also works to equip young people with tech skills. He sees both roles as directly related: teaching the youth to earn from skills sought after in the 21st century is an extension of the work he does for the concerns that already use those skills. He’s supporting a significant portion of the tech ecosystem.

The services offered by Techfoundme include short term digital marketing campaigns, content audit, and the management of digital channels on behalf of its client businesses. By taking on these responsibilities, it frees up time and resources for those businesses and allows them to focus on their core operations.

In 2019, Teemself Global organized a tech skills training program through Techfoundme. The program was aimed at teaching people aged 15 and above skills like web design, graphics design, blogging, and digital marketing. Oladimeji sees initiatives like this as a means of preparing young people for careers in tech-driven industries.

Oladimeji and his company have been recognized in several quarters for the work that they do. In 2017, he was a semifinalist in the YOUWIN Initiative Competition. And in 2019, he was a finalist at the AYEEN Pitch Contest organized by Africa’s Young Entrepreneur Initiative.

Techfoundme was named one of Connect Nigeria’s Top 100 Emerging SMEs for 2019. This was after it scaled through rounds of screening and voting, involving thousands of other businesses.
