Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) giants, Enyimba FC crashed out of the CAF Champions League despite a 2-1 home win against Al-Merrikh of Sudan on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in Aba. The Sudanese advanced into the next round of the competition with a 4-2 aggregate advantage after beating the Nigerians 3-0 in the first-leg encounter.

Enyimba’s elimination now leaves them in the CAF Confederations Cup where the fate of another Nigerian club, Rivers United, hangs in the balance ahead of a CAF verdict over the Nigeria Football Federation’s failure to get a COVID-19 waiver for Bloemfontein Celtics of South Africa for the second leg of their encounter after the Nigerians emerged 2-0 victorious in the first-leg.

Also, Nigerian national U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets were equally less impressive in their WAFU tournament outing in Togo after a 1-0 loss in their first match against Ivory Coast, and a 1-1 draw against Ghana in their second game.

In the domestic front, Rivers United on Sunday, January 10, 2021, maintained their lead on the NPFL log after a comfortable 3-0 win over 1o man Kwara United in Port Harcourt. A 3-0 win over Heartland FC of Owerri at the New Jos Stadium saw Plateau United record their first win in the league this season, while Kano Pillars battled for a 1-1 draw at the Lafia Township Stadium against Nassarrawa United.

Onuachu is one of the leading goal scorers in Europe’s top 15 leagues.

In Spanish football, Samuel Chukwueze made history after emerging as the youngest player in the history of his Spanish club, Villarreal to feature in 100 matches during their 4-1 win over Zamora in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Nigerian women U-20 national team star, Christy Ucheibe, helped her Portuguese club, SL Benfica Feminino, win the maiden edition of the Portuguese League Cup after a 3-0 win over Sporting Braga on January 6, 2021.

In the English FA CUP, Former Super Eagles of Nigeria captain, Mikel Obi, and reigning Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, clashed on Saturday, Both stars were impressive and featured for all 90 minutes as Ndidi’s Leicester City triumphed 4-0 over Mikel’s Stoke City.

Nigerian basketball sensation, Jordan Nwora, has been impressive for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA. His brilliant displays saw the 22-year-old score a total of 17 points in three games for the Bucks last week. Milwaukee Bucks are currently placed 5th on the Eastern Conference log.
