While the D’Tigress made the headlines, having drawn the United States, France, and Japan in Group B, the D’Tigers were drawn alongside the Australian basketball national team (Group B also).

Both teams will have to wait for the outcome of the qualification tournaments in Serbia and Croatia to know the nation that will complete the group. Nigeria is Africa’s sole representative in the male and female category of the basketball event in Tokyo, Japan.

Asisat Oshoala made history after the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) awarded her the Best African Woman Player of the Decade (2011 -2020).

In the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Enyimba FC of Aba remained top of the league after beating Plateau United 2-1 at home in the much-anticipated clash on Saturday, February 6, 2021. A brace from Tosin Omoyele in the 27th and 30th minutes put the Peoples Elephants in a comfortable lead. A 76th-minute strike from Moses Effiong saw Plateau United fight till the end, but it was not enough to help them share the spoils.

In Enugu, a 16th-minute strike from Christian Nnaji was all Enugu Rangers needed to record a vital 1-0 home win against Warri Wolves on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

Heartland FC pulled a great feat with a 2-1 away win over MFM FC at the Agege Stadium, Lagos State. Adachi Emmanuel put the visitors ahead from the spot in the 7th minute, but a 49th-minute Muyiwa Balogun strike brought the game to a stalemate. Adachi Emmanuel would get his second goal of the game in the 55th minute to hand the visitors the win. Visiting Kwara United also registered a 2-1 win over Sunshine Stars in Akure.
