Easter: Federal Government Declares Friday And Monday Public Holidays


As part of the moves to mark this year’s celebration of Easter by Nigerian Christians, the federal government has announced that Friday, April 2, 2021, and Monday, April 5, are public holidays as Christians look to wrap-up the Holy Week.

This information was made public on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola.

In an official statement released by Mohammed Manga, the Ministry’s Director of Press, Aregbesola charged Nigerian Christians to emulate attributes demonstrated by Jesus Christ during his time on earth such as love, forgiveness, forbearance, humility, kindness, patience, and peace.

He went further to urge Christians to use the avenue created by Easter to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of the nation.

The Minister went further to address the state of the nation as Nigerians need assurance of their safety amidst the celebrations, noting that the government is committed to dealing with the recent spate of armed banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes perpetrated by criminals in the country.

‘Security is everybody’s business, I, therefore, encourage all Nigerians and foreigners resident in Nigeria, to display high level of patriotism at this critical time in the history of our country, to support the efforts of all security agencies in ensuring peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry.’
