Questions regarding Anthony Joshua’s nationality were put to bed as the Nigerian boxer, enrolled for his National Identity Card at the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Abuja. The commission displayed pictures of Joshua enrolling for the National Identity Card in its office on its official twitter handle, which also saw the world heavyweight boxing champion issued a National Identity Number, NIN. Joshua who has never hidden his love and patriotism for Nigeria, his fatherland, presented his world boxing titles to President Muhammadu Buhari during his last visit to the United Kingdom, where he prostrated in the traditional Yoruba style to show respect for the President of the most populous black nation on earth.

Anthony Joshua was also spotted in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, to the welcome of a rapturous Nigerian crowd that has always shown support to the British-based boxer, flying Nigeria’s flag all over the world. Part of his visit to Ogun State, saw him meet the Akarigbo and other traditional chiefs by 1:15pm (WAT) to pay respect as demanded traditionally. It will be recalled that on December 7, 2019, Joshua through a unanimous decision by three judges, defeated Andy Ruiz to reclaim his world heavyweight belts which he lost in June.
