Online music platform, Boomplay, has announced Simi’s self-titled second studio album – Simisola – has passed the one million streams mark. The achievement exceeds the number of streams reached by her counterparts in the industry.
The 16 track album, which was released in September last year by by X3M Music, debuted at number five on the Billboard World Albums chart in the week of its release, and went on to win the singer the Album Of The Year 2018 award at the Headies, and has proven to be a commercial success. The album release was preceded by the release of 5 hit singles, including Joromi, and Smile For Me.
Simi has also released an extended version of the album with 14 original tracks and two remixes, one of which features 2baba. This, she says, was a dream come true as she has looked forward to working with the music star for at least five years.
Simisola Ogunleye, who is currently signed to X3M Music, started out as a gospel singer, with an independently released album titled “Ogaju” in 2008. She, however, came into the spotlight after the release of her 2014 song Tiff, which got multiple award nominations.
The announcement is coming soon after the online music platform announced that it now has 10 million app installations on Google Play, and 29 million users, to become Africa’s fastest growing music streaming and download platform.
