Tip Of The Day: How To Sanitise The Kitchen Sponge With Dishwasher

If your kitchen sponge had a voice, what would it say about your cleaning habits? How would it describe your sink? Would it tell us that’s always dirty and stacked full of plates, pots and leftover food? How would it even describe your attitude towards it? Would it tell us that you recognize its importance in your kitchen and that you care for it as a result? Or would it tell us that because of your negligence, it’s not just as old as Methuselah but it’s also as dirty as a pig? Take a minute and examine your conscience. Don’t make your confession to me. Just know that some cleaning tools like the sponge require cleaning. Therefore, sanitize your sponge at the end of every day and if you don’t know how to clean it, here’s the dishwasher method of doing it.

Dishwasher Method

First of all, the dishwasher is a machine that washes dishes and cutleries automatically. Now, one of the best things about using it to sanitise the kitchen sponge is that it can be used on any kind of sponge. That said, when using the dishwasher to sanitise the sponge, the sponge is placed at the top rack of the dishwasher. It is from this exalted position that it takes a bath with the dishes in the dishwasher. Please note that when sanitising the sponge, the dishwasher should be set to its hottest and longest cycle with the option of an additional dry cycle. When the cycle is completed, you can be sure that your sponge is squeaky clean; even researchers at USDA say that this method kills 99.9998 percent of the microbes.
